Conversion qualification lets you decide, on a per-offer basis, whether an incoming conversion should actually trigger an affiliate payout. You set the rules once on the offer's conversion type, and Trackdesk evaluates every new conversion for that offer against them automatically.
This is useful when you want conversions to count toward revenue reporting but only pay your affiliates for the ones that meet your criteria, for example, orders above a minimum value, or only the first purchase per customer.
How qualification works
Every conversion in Trackdesk has a qualification state:
Qualified: The conversion meets your rules. Its payout cost is applied normally and the affiliate earns a commission.
Unqualified: The conversion was recorded, but its payout cost is set to zero. The affiliate earns no commission on it.
Not applicable: Qualification is not enabled for the conversion type, so the conversion is paid out as usual.
Unqualifying a conversion never affects its revenue, only the affiliate payout. The conversion remains in your reports, keeps its status, and still fires postbacks. It simply stops contributing to the affiliate's earnings.
Qualification is evaluated once, at the moment the conversion is created. It is separate from the conversion status (approved, pending, rejected, and so on); a conversion can be both approved and unqualified at the same time.
Enable qualification on a conversion type
Qualification is configured per conversion type on each offer. Navigate to Offers, open the offer you want to configure, and go to Revenue & payouts.
Edit an existing conversion type or add a new one, then configure the qualification settings described below. Save the pricing configuration when you are done. From that point on, any new conversion recorded on this offer and this conversion type will be evaluated against your rules.
Qualification settings
In the conversion type settings, you will see the following options:
Qualification: Choose Apply to enable qualification for this conversion type, or No qualification to leave every conversion fully payable. Qualification is off by default.
Qualification limit: Controls how many conversions from the same customer can qualify for this conversion type:
Once: Only the first conversion that meets your rules per customer qualifies. Any further conversions from that customer on this conversion type are unqualified.
Limited: Up to a specific number of conversions per customer qualify. You set the number in the field described below.
Unlimited: No per-customer limit. Every conversion that meets the minimum revenue rules qualifies.
Maximum number of qualified conversions: Shown only when Limited is selected. Enter the maximum number of qualifying conversions per customer for this conversion type. The minimum value is 2.
Minimum revenue conditions
Below the revenue and payout group settings, you will find the Qualification block. This is where you set the minimum revenue a conversion must have to qualify, for each currency in the offer's revenue and payouts setup.
The block shows a row for every conversion type that has qualification enabled and a column for every currency defined in your revenue and payouts setup. Fill in the minimum revenue amount for each currency and conversion type combination.
The minimum is inclusive: a conversion with revenue exactly equal to the threshold qualifies.
How Trackdesk decides
When a new conversion is created on a conversion type with qualification enabled, Trackdesk runs two checks in order:
Revenue check: The conversion's revenue is compared against the minimum set for its currency. If the currency has no minimum, or the revenue is below it, the conversion is unqualified.
Limit check: Trackdesk counts how many qualified conversions the customer already has on this conversion type. If that count has reached your qualification limit, the new conversion is unqualified.
Both checks must pass for a conversion to qualify. If either fails, the conversion is saved with a payout cost of zero.
Changing qualification manually
You can override qualification on an individual conversion at any time, for example after manually reviewing an order. Qualification changes are made through the Trackdesk API. See the API documentation for the set-qualification endpoint.
When you change a qualified conversion to unqualified, its payout cost is saved and then set to zero. If you later switch it back to qualified, the original cost is restored automatically. Revenue is never changed by a qualification update.
Every manual qualification change is recorded in the activity log, so you have a full history of who made the change and when. Qualification on conversions that have already been settled cannot be changed.
Viewing qualification in reports
The conversion report includes a Qualified column that shows whether each conversion qualified. You can add the column from the report's column picker and filter by qualified or unqualified conversions to quickly see how much revenue you are and are not paying commissions on.
Affiliates can see the qualification status of their own conversions in their reports as well. They will see a payout of zero on unqualified conversions, but they cannot change the qualification themselves.
