Stripe via Customer Email

Connect Stripe to Trackdesk by matching customer emails.

Integrating Stripe via customer email is a quick way to set up your affiliate program for your website. After setup, Trackdesk automatically tracks all conversions from your customers. Conversions are automatically updated for billing events, refunds, and cancellations.

This method of integration is used if you are having your customers register or fill in a contact form first before entering Stripe and at the same time you do not use Stripe payment links.

Before you start

Please note that for the Stripe via Customer email flow, a developer is needed in most cases. They would create a script/edit on the thank-you page (whether after registration or immediately after payment) for automatically filling in the email.

Step-by-step installation

Step 1: Install the Trackdesk app

  1. Navigate to the Stripe marketplace and install our Stripe app: https://marketplace.stripe.com/apps/trackdesk.

Step 2: Configure the settings

  1. Fill in all necessary information in the Stripe app settings and save your changes.

  2. Tenant ID: Click Your Trackdesk identifiers at the top right of any Trackdesk Settings page to copy your Tenant ID. You can also find your Tenant ID by following the steps in this article.

  3. Personal token: Copy your personal token from Your Trackdesk identifiers at the top right of any Settings page, or create a new one in Settings → Integrations → Personal tokens. You can also find your Personal token by following the steps in this article.

Step 3: Set up click tracking

  1. Track clicks by including the tracking code on every page of your website, including all landing pages.

  2. Place it as high as possible in the <head>, ideally right after the opening <head> tag, so the click is recorded before the visitor can leave the page.

  3. Insert the tracking script provided in your account:

    <!-- Trackdesk tracker begin -->
    <script async src="//TENANT_ID.trackdesk.com/main.js"></script>
    <script>
    (function(t,d,k){(t[k]=t[k]||[]).push(d);t[d]=t[d]||t[k].f||function(){(t[d].q=t[d].q||[]).push(arguments)}})(window,"trackdesk","TrackdeskObject");

    trackdesk("TENANT_ID", "click");
    </script>
    <!-- Trackdesk tracker end -->

    Replace TENANT_ID with your Tenant ID.

Step 4: Connect the customer email to the click

  1. Add the email connection snippet to a page on your website after you collect the customer's email (for example, to a thank-you page after a customer is registered or a confirmation page after registration). Place it right before the closing </body> tag, so any customer details on the page are already loaded when it runs.

    <!-- Trackdesk tracker begin -->
    <script async src="//TENANT_ID.trackdesk.com/main.js"></script>
    <script>
    (function(t,d,k){(t[k]=t[k]||[]).push(d);t[d]=t[d]||t[k].f||function(){(t[d].q=t[d].q||[]).push(arguments)}})(window,"trackdesk","TrackdeskObject");

    trackdesk("TENANT_ID", "externalCid", {
    externalCid: "EXTERNAL_CID",
    revenueOriginId: "REVENUE_ORIGIN_ID"
    });
    </script>
    <!-- Trackdesk tracker end -->
  2. Replace these values:

    • TENANT_ID: your Tenant ID

    • EXTERNAL_CID: the email of the customer

    • REVENUE_ORIGIN_ID: your Revenue Origin ID. Copy it from Your Trackdesk identifiers at the top right of any Settings page.

Testing & troubleshooting

Our Stripe app now works for all Stripe modes: Live mode, Test mode and Sandbox mode.

Testing your integration

Please remember to test the creation of clicks and conversions before starting your program. This way, you can verify that tracking has been set up correctly.

  1. You can create a test click and conversion by following the steps described here.

  2. To check that the email connection itself is working, open the Click report and look at the External CID column. The customer's email should appear there. If it is missing, the script from Step 4 is not firing on the page where you collect the email.

  3. Note that our Stripe app automatically checks for new conversions every 15 minutes.

  4. In order to speed this up, you can do a manual check in the settings of our Stripe app by using the Check Now button.

Troubleshooting

  • If any tracking issues occur, you can go through these Stripe integration troubleshooting steps described here.
