Can Affiliate ID Be Changed?

Written by Sasha Gerold

Affiliate IDs are immutable - once an affiliate account is created, its ID can't be changed.

If an affiliate needs a different ID, the only option is to delete the existing affiliate and create a new account with the correct ID. There are two ways to do this:

  • Recreate it yourself: Delete the affiliate (Affiliate list → open the affiliate → Delete), then add a new one via Affiliate list → Add new affiliateAdd via form, setting the ID during creation.

    • See how to delete an affiliate here.

  • Have the affiliate re-register: Delete the existing affiliate first, then share your signup link from the "Invite your affiliates" section on your Dashboard so they can sign up again.

    • See how to invite affiliates here.

⚠️ Note: Deleting an affiliate is permanent. It removes the account along with its tracking links and historical data, and the new account starts fresh.

Keep in mind that whether you can actually choose the replacement ID depends on your ID mode (see below).

In Generate mode the ID is always random and can't be set, so recreating the affiliate won't let you pick a specific ID.

Controlling how affiliate IDs are created going forward

You can set how IDs are created for new affiliates in Settings → Affiliates → General. The setting applies to all new registrations:

  • Prefill - The ID is automatically filled from the affiliate's full name as a URL-friendly slug (e.g. "John Smith" → "john-smith"). It can be edited before the account is created.

  • Generate - The ID is a random 6-character alphanumeric string (e.g. "h7k9m2"). It cannot be modified.

  • Custom Note - You write a note and placeholder as guidance, and the affiliate enters their own ID following your instructions during registration.

Affiliate IDs must be 2–50 characters, are automatically converted to URL-friendly format (lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens), and must be unique across your network.
