Understanding Affiliate, Traffic and Billing Statuses

How affiliate, traffic and billing statuses affect access, tracking and open balances.

Each affiliate account contains key settings that control access to the platform, the ability to generate tracking data, and whether their earnings count towards your payouts.

These include:

  • Affiliate status (account access)

  • Traffic status (tracking activity)

  • Billing status (inclusion in open balances)

All three can be managed by admin users on the affiliate detail page.

Affiliate statuses (account access)

Affiliate status determines whether the affiliate can access their account.

Enabled

  • Affiliate has full access to the platform

  • Can log in and view performance statistics

  • Receives a welcome email when activated

Pending

  • Awaiting approval or manually set to pending

  • Cannot log in

  • No data is tracked or visible

Disabled

  • Cannot access the platform

  • No performance data is available

Traffic statuses (tracking activity)

Traffic status controls whether clicks and conversions are recorded.

Enabled

  • Clicks and conversions are tracked normally

  • Affiliate traffic is recorded and reported

Disabled

  • Clicks and conversions are not recorded

  • Affiliate links will not generate tracking data

Billing statuses (inclusion in open balances)

Billing status controls whether the affiliate's earnings count towards your open balance.

Included

  • The default for every affiliate

  • Earnings count towards your open balance and are picked up by settlements

Excluded

  • Earnings are removed from your open balance totals

  • The amount is reported separately on the Billing status excluded breakdown line

  • Clicks, conversions and commissions are still tracked and generated as normal

For full details, see Affiliate Billing Status.

Key difference

  • Affiliate status → controls access to the platform

  • Traffic status → controls whether tracking works

  • Billing status → controls whether earnings count towards your open balance

These settings can be used independently, giving you full control over access, activity and payouts.

Example use cases

  1. End of cooperation
Keep the affiliate Enabled, but set traffic to Disabled.
→ The affiliate can still log in, view historical performance, and download invoices, but cannot generate new traffic.

  2. New affiliate approval process
Set affiliate to Pending until reviewed and approved.

  3. Full deactivation
Set affiliate to Disabled to completely revoke access.

  4. Paid outside Trackdesk
Keep the affiliate Enabled with traffic Enabled, but set billing status to Excluded.
→ Their performance is tracked and commissions are generated, but their balance stays out of your payout totals.
